Whenever people think of a prophet, they think of a man who does nothing but talk about the end of the world and predict the future. Well I'm here to tell you, that is not the case. I know that there is a prophet on the earth today and that he does give us counsil from God. HIs name is Thomas S. Monson. His purpose is to teach us of Jesus Christ and how to come closer to him. If we follow his counsel I know that we will come closer to Christ. I want to show President Monson to you. Watch this video and follow his teachings.

The Book of Mormon
What is the Book of Mormon? Why do we have it? Why should I read it, what can it do for me? These and other questions are things that I hope to address here.
The Book of Mormon is, as the cover states, another testament of Jesus Christ. Not a replacement testament, not a different testament, but one that goes hand in hand with the Bible. It testifies that Jesus is the Christ, our Lord and Saviour. It is proof of His divinity. The purpose of the Book of Mormon is to convince "...the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations" (Book of Mormon, Title page)
The Book of Mormon is about a family that lived in Jerusalem. The head of the family was a prophet and was told to flee the city for his life and the life of his family. The Lord lead and guided them to the "Promised Land," which was over on the Americas. Because the Lord loves all of his children, he called prophets over in the Americas just as he did in Jerusalem. They in turn would write according to the prophesies and revelations given to them by the Lord. These records were kept safe for future generations, just like the Bible in the Holy Land. In the climax of the Book of Mormon, Jesus Christ, as the risen Lord, came to the people of the Book of Mormon and taught them His gospel. At the end of the Book of Mormon all the record were compiled by a prophet-historian named Mormon (hence, the Book of Mormon) and were guarded and finally buried by his son Moroni. The record were hid up until they were ready to be brought forth by the power of God.
A man named Joseph Smith was called of God to be the translator of the Book of Mormon. Only a man called of God could do such a work. Only a man of God could bring forth scripture from the Lord. If the Book of Mormon is true that means that Joseph Smith really did see God and Jesus Christ. If The Book of Mormon is true than everything we learned from him is of God. If the book is true than Joseph Smith is a prophet.
As you can see, The Book of Mormon is everything to us. It is the very keystone that holds our religion together. Joseph Smith himself said of the Book of Mormon, "Take away the Book of Mormon and the revelations, and where is our religion? We have none” (History of the Church, 2:52).
I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I learned that through trial and prayer. It has brought me eternal happiness to know that there is truth and that you can know it. If you would like to learn more please ask me. I would love to talk about it.

The Atonement of Jesus Christ
I know that the Atonement of Jesus Christ is real. I have felt its influence for myself. I wish that everyone could feel it the way I have. I know that Jesus Christ payed the ultimate price for my sins. And I am eternally grateful for that. I couldn't do what I do without it. But the focus of my post today is more on how it can help today. Right now. First I want to refer a scripture:
Alma 7:11-12
11 And he shall go forth, suffering pains and afflictions and temptations of every kind; and this that the word might be fulfilled which saith he will take upon him the pains and the sicknesses of his people.
12 And he will take upon him death, that he may loose the bands of death which bind his people; And he will take upon him their infirmities that his bowels my be fulled with mercy, according to the flesh, that he may know according the the flesh how to succor his people according to their infirmities.
That scripture is why I'm still on a mission. I had no problems being away from my family. I went off to college, no big deal. I was by myself and if anything came up I could just call home and get the help I needed. When I went on my mission, my parents dropped me off and I looked around and saw all kinds of missionaries crying as they said bye to their parents. My mom started tearing up and I said bye to her and dad but it really wasn't hard. Then I was off. I was on a mission. I met my very first companion. He was a great elder. I love the elder now. But at the time I thought he hated me. Him and every other missionary I was serving with. I felt very much alone for the first time in my life. I didn't know what to do. I couldn't just call mom or dad. I felt very alone. I didn't know what to do. I found the above mentioned scripture and thought a lot about it. Finally after about 5 days of this, I had it. I needed some help. I was at wits end. I decided to pray for comfort. Something I was taught to do but had never actually done. I got down on my knees and for the first time in my life I actually felt a warm comforting feeling that I could notice come over my. It was amazing. the best feeling i have ever felt. I knew at that moment that Heavenly Father had my back. that I was doing the right thing and that I was not alone. I knew that He would be there for me. I have never doubted the power of the Atonement of Christ since. I know that He will help anyone if they are humble enough to ask.
